So you aren’t exactly Michael Jordan, but your Air Jordans still fit? Well, start practicing your fadeaways, layups, jump shots and dribbling skills. RCSSC has decided to add basketball to its list of social sports. If you feel as though you haven’t left it all out on the court, grab those sweatbands, come out of retirement and give it another go. Basketball will be offered indoors, year-round.

Because the idea of the River City Sport & Social Club is to play sports and be SOCIAL, all teams should patronize one (OR MORE) of RCSSC’s bar sponsors (Home Team Grill, Buffalo Wild Wings, Gus', On The Rox) after each game. These establishments care enough to support RCSSC (YOU), so socially supporting one of our sponsors by having a meal or a few drinks is important. Plus, beer-infused post-game downtime is an essential part of the RCSSC social experience, and these sponsors have been kind enough to offer a player special for all social RCSSC players--as long as they have their team shirt on. Who would say no?
There will be 4 divisions for basketball instead of the usual 3 offered for most RCSSC sports. In addition to the Social, Super Social, and Extreme Social divisions, there will be a new Veterans division for the athletically and socially-dedicated participants over 40. While all divisions are sociable, each is geared toward athleticism and/or newness to the league.
Social: Comfortable taking a shot from downtown? The Social division is for teams and individuals who enjoy socializing AND have ADVANCED athletic skills. If you consider your skills to be above the rest of the neighborhood’s and find that you can’t play to your fullest during the annual neighborhood basketball game, this is the division for you. The Social division is the most competitive RCSSC division, and ALL teams participate in end-of-season playoff games.
Super Social: Making a good percentage of your free throws? The Super Social division is built for teams and individuals that intend to socialize and have GOOD athletic skills. If you can hold your own when it comes to the annual neighborhood basketball game, here is your division. It's usually the division with the most teams and players. The top 16 or 32 teams have end-of-season playoff games.
Extreme Social: Throwing up an air ball not too uncommon? The Extreme Social division is designed for teams and individuals that love to socialize and also possess BASIC athletic skills. If you find that a neighborhood game of pick-up on the weekend is more your speed, here you go. While this is certainly a fun division, no playoffs are involved in the Extreme Social division when there is a Social division.
Veteran: The Veteran division is for those social players over 40 who also possess timeless athletic ability. The Nike and Reebok Pumps bought during high school or college don’t just have to be for Halloween when you dress as Larry Bird or Cynthia Cooper. So get your old squad back together, and come show off your throwback gear.
You may join any of the divisions, but we discourage against the Social division for a brand new team to the league. There are no playoffs in the Extreme Social division when there is also a Social division in same sport.
